The Township of St. Clair is currently seeking Summer Students to fill positions at the Moore and Wilkesport Maintenance Shops as follows:
Operations Labourer Summer Students – Canada Summer Jobs Youth
These positions complete duties related to health, safety and protection of residents, property and infrastructure within St. Clair Township. These duties include maintenance to the roads system, water system and sanitary sewer system, hydrant flushing and painting, grass cutting, locate of Township underground utilities, sidewalk maintenance/inspection, water meter reading, responding to consumer service appointments and complaints/concerns. These positions also provide improvements and beautification for festivals and community events such as Firefighter Field Day, Sombra Days, Captain Kids Days, St Clair River Run, Gala Days, and the Brigden Fair.
These positions receive funding through Canada Summer Jobs. For candidates to be eligible for this position they must meet the following requirements:
• The youth must be 15 years of age at the beginning of the employment period. The youth may be more than 30 years of age at the end of the employment period as long as the youth was 30 at the beginning of the employment period.
• International students are not eligible participants. International students include anyone who is temporarily in Canada for studies and who is not a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada. Youth awaiting a refugee status ruling, as well as those who hold a temporary visitor visa, youth visa or work visa are ineligible. As the objective of the Canada Summer Jobs program is to support youth entering the Canadian labour market, the temporary nature of an international student’s time in Canada does not allow for a long-term connection to the labour market.
The ideal candidate will be a post-secondary student with experience in general maintenance, lawn maintenance. Must be willing to work outdoors and have demonstrated ability to work as a member of a team.
